So life in year one can offer lots of rainbows and happy days, moments and events. There can also be rainy days where everything just piles ontop of you, hence my blog name.
I think it is so important to talk about those rainy days as well as the lovely sunshiny rainbow days because you learn and you grow from those days.
This week was hard.
Really damn hard.
As individuals my class are lovely. As a group we are working on it. When they are having a bad day it really snowballs and it just keeps getting worse and worse.
Wednesday was my breaking point this week and it wasn't the kiddos fault. We were trying to complete our maths lesson, after lunch, with no help. It wasn't my fault either. There is a huge timetabling error. I ended up getting really annoyed at the kids and trying to get them to be quiet and just get on with it, but there wasn't enough support. I (unfortunately) cannot morph into multiple different people to help them cope and learn effectively. So we ended up back on the carpet sitting in a circle so that I could go to each child and help and move to the next person and then go around again and again. I am lucky because my (new) headteacher is very supportive and is now sorting out extra support for my class. Not for me, but for the children. Thank goodness for teaching assistants is all I can say and I have the best TA in the whole wide world! :)
Thursday was much better. I have learnt (I'm a slow learner) that I have a class, who at the moment need to be controlled in every aspect or their learning goes out the window. I have changed my approach to them and how I teach to get the best from them. Hopefully by Christmas I can loosen the reins a little and give them a little more wiggle room. At least that is the idea.
Hope you have all had better weeks. Feel free to rant about your week in the comments. I have sympathy. :)
